Desire

Fire can be used to keep warm and provide comfort, or it can destroy everything in its path. Desire has the same potential.
 
It’s easy to become consumed by desire, especially when something appears to be lacking in your life. Remain inactive for too long and you’ll get burned, missing opportunities to fulfill your wants and desires. Same for too much action, wanting something too much will repel what you want and will put out the flame all together.
 
It’s not that desire is bad, it’s that most people don’t know how to use it.
 
Desires born of anxiety will seek to fill a hole, are based in fear, and are destructive to yourself and others. These desires are often fixed on a particular outcome and can get out of hand the way wildfires destroy anything in its path.
 
Desires born of passion are a genuine expression of who you are, are based in love, and will fulfill yourself and others. These desires are warm and inviting like a campfire under a starry night sky, they provide everyone comfort.
 
A movement based practice that incorporates breath work like yoga, tai chi, qigong, dance, or even exercise, can help focus and facilitate this primordial force within us. These practices help transmute the powerful nature of desire and focus it toward worthy achievements that will ultimately fulfill us on a deep spiritual level.
 
Seek to balance your desires as you learn to dance with its flame and you will undoubtedly be on your way to great achievements.
